The IDF's biggest challenge in Gaza: Shifa Hospital

CIA chief William Burns was in Israel yesterday, meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu and Head of the Mossad Dudu Barnea

The IDF has completed the encirclement of Gaza City, attacking the highest concentrations of Hamas terrorists in the tunnels and approaching Shifa and other hospitals. In Israel’s north yesterday, 30 rockets were launched from Lebanon toward several sites in the north: Metula, Nahariya, Acre, and Kiryat Bialik.

Its approach to the well-known and large Shifa Hospital is the next big challenge for the IDF forces. Inside the hospital are patients and medical staff; thousands of civilians have been staying in and near the hospital to find shelter from IDF airstrikes. Beneath the building complex, however, is the Hamas headquarters.

Last night, Israel’s Prime Minister spoke with President Biden, and the White House said there was talk of "tactical pauses in the fighting" in favor of humanitarian aid. In Jerusalem, they are concerned by the increasing American pressure for the cessation of hostilities (for the sake of humanitarian assistance), especially considering the large number of casualties in Gaza.

IDF spokesman Brigadier General Danny Hagari said of Shifa Hospital, "We will continue to deepen our movements against Hamas terrorists, everywhere they can be found and in every infrastructure."

The heads of the UN aid agencies demanded a humanitarian ceasefire yesterday, claiming that 10,000 Gazan residents were been killed in the war so far. "An entire population is under siege," they announced, "without access to essential means of living, bombed in their homes, shelters, hospitals, and mosques."

Last night, the IDF took control of a Hamas outpost in Gaza where observation posts, combat compounds, and terrorist tunnels were found. The IDF and the Shin Bet eliminated the Deir al-Balah Hamas HQ and killed Hamas Commander Wael Asefa, one of the masterminds of the October 7 attack who had previously been imprisoned in Israel. The IDF continues its effort to move the residents of Gaza south, leaving them an evacuation corridor.

CIA Chief William Burns met with Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Head of Mossad, David (Dudu) Barnea in Israel yesterday. Burns expressed support for efforts to free the abductees and reiterated the US commitment to deter other countries from expanding the conflict. On his trip, he will also visit Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said yesterday, "The IDF machine is operating at full strength. Sinwar is hiding in his bunker." Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi visited a squadron of F-35 stealth fighter jets in Nevatim, stating that the planes would accompany the IDF soldiers in attacking targets.

He continued, "We are seriously harming Hamas and its leaders, destroying infrastructure, and are on alert in other sectors as well."

In a stabbing attack yesterday in Jerusalem, 20-year-old border police fighter Elisheva Rose Lubin was injured and later died of her wounds.
