One month after Hamas terrorists breached the border fence between Gaza and Israel and committed a massacre on Israel’s southern communities, the IDF Nahal Oz Situation room has reopened at its new location in the Re’im base, also in the Gaza envelope area.

The Nahal Oz situation room, where the field observers had constant eyes on the border, was one of the first spots Hamas attacked during its murderous surprise attack on October 7th. The all-female field observers participated in the heroic battles against the terrorists. Many were killed, while others were kidnapped to Gaza. So far, the IDF managed to release one field observer, Private Ori Magidish.

"This is a time of war, and our mission is to continue to operate,” Captain S., an observation officer in charge of the Nahal Oz sector, is quoted saying in the IDF website.

“The soldiers and friends we lost accompany us at every moment. They sacrificed their lives fighting for our homeland, and we do not have the right not to perform our duty. Without us, the forces don’t have eyes in the field.”

The new situation room is adorned with a mural dedicated to the fallen soldiers, looking at the natural beauty of the Gaza envelope area. “The flowers will continue to bloom, and we should too,” said Captain S.

"The story of the Nahal Oz situation room will forever be the story of heroic actions and fighting in the face of an enemy,” said the Commanding Officer of the 414th Battalion, Lt. Col. Ofir.

“We will bow our heads in memory of the fallen, and embrace and strengthen the dear families that are an inseparable part of the 414th Battalion from now on and forever.”
