Egypt produces version of Sherpa Light Scout vehicle

The Egyptian defense industry has developed a local version of the French-made Sherpa Light Scout 4x4 armored vehicle. The Army Recognition website reported that the Egyptian version seems to be equipped with new armor, a fully enclosed cargo area in the rear, and a new remote weapon station on the roof.
According to the arms trade database of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), France delivered 191 Sherpa vehicles to the Egyptian army and police between 2012 and 2014. The Sherpa is a family of light tactical armored vehicles designed and developed by French company Renault Trucks Defense (RTD), which is now named Arquus. The Sherpa Light Scout was unveiled to the public for the first time in June 2006.
The Sherpa Light Scout has a conventional layout with the engine at the front, crew compartment in the middle, and cargo area at the rear. It has seats for the driver and commander in the front of the crew compartment, and two or three seats in the rear. There are two doors on each side of the vehicle with a small bulletproof window and a firing port.
The Sherpa is available in unarmored or armored variants that can incorporate ballistic, mine, and improvised explosive device protection kits. Versions of the Sherpa are now in service in Australia, Brazil, Chile, Egypt, France, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, Kosovo, Lebanon, Mexico, Morocco, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, according to the report.
