The IDF’s Patriot air defense array will soon conclude its service in Israel. The array’s inception dates back to the 1960s, which Israel adopted. The Patriot was essentially an upgraded version of the Hawk system and became operational in 1991.

The Patriot batteries (known in Hebrew as the Diamond, Yahalom) intercepted 19 targets between 2014 and present day, including nine targets since October 7th. The array was dispersed throughout the country, from the north all the way down to Eilat. Currently, a process of reducing the batteries is underway, until the entire system is shut down.

The IDF website quotes Lt. Col. Matan, Commander of the Patriot array: “The ones who have done the work are the people, the fighters, and the maintenance system serving all corners of the country in the most professional and dedicated manner.”
