The escalation in the Houthis' attacks against shipping in the Red Sea: Two merchant ships and a warship of the American Navy were attacked yesterday by Houthi missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to Reuters, a giant cargo ship carrying thousands of containers, en route from the United States to Singapore, was attacked by two UAVs. Another container ship was also damaged in a naval mine attack approximately 100 kilometers northwest of the Hodeidah port in Yemen.

IDF Spokesperson, Major General Dani Hageri, stated yesterday in the context of the ship attacks: “The Houthis are firing at ships with Iranian weaponry. This is an international problem.”

The Pentagon announced that the Houthi rebels reported the attack on two ships linked to Israel but not one on an American warship. However, according to the Pentagon, “we are aware that there was an attack on the USS Carney and other ships in the Red Sea.

Houthi spokesperson General Yahya Saree said that a missile hit one ship, and the other by a naval mine, both incidents occurring in the Egyptian Bab al-Mandab connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden. He stated that the attacks would continue as long as Israel persists in its war against Hamas in Gaza.

The BBC reported that the large cargo ship is British-owned, it was hit by a missile and sustained severe damage. There were even reports that it began to sink. The ship's crew issued distress calls, and the British Maritime Agency called on all shipping vessels in the area to take precautionary measures.

The British Maritime Agency, Ambrey, conveyed that the second attacked ship is linked, in terms of its management company, to the businessman David Ungar, a citizen of both the UK and Israel.
