The German website Soldat & Technik reports that the French Special Forces are beginning to equip with the light machine gun FN EVOLYS from the Belgian manufacturer FN Herstal and that the first shipment of these machine guns has just started. This is the first customer of this machine gun as the FN company first introduced the light machine gun in early May 2021.

FN Herstal currently offers the machine gun in two versions with the calibers 7.62 mm x 51 and 5.56 mm x 45. According to the manufacturer, FN EVOLYS combines the capabilities of a machine gun with the size and type of an assault rifle. The weapons weigh between 5.5 and 6.2 kg, depending on the version.

The German website tells that the weapon was presented to a wider audience for the first time at the DSEI 2021 in London. At the fair, it was heard that the British Army had already ordered weapons for test purposes. Some experts see this as proof that the British armed forces have recognized their mistake in phasing out the light MG of the FN Herstal MINIMI type and now urgently need compensation.

FN Herstal's British sales manager confirmed at the fair that FN Herstal is firmly planning to offer the FN EVOLYS for an expected tender for the “Individual Weapon” for the new British ranger regiment.
