North Korea on Tuesday launched a short-range missile in the direction of the sea while its representative at the UN General Assembly accused the U.S. of carrying out a hostile policy against his country.

AP reported that it was the third missile launched during a single week, and was apparently intended to gauge the responses in Seoul. Pyongyang would like Seoul to pressure Washington to ease sanctions on the North. Seoul expressed regret over the missile launches.

The missile, which was launched in a mountainous area in the northern part of the country, landed in the sea off the coast. A North Korea expert at Seoul University said that it is possible that the North Korean Army tested a hypersonic missile, and that it is known that the leader of the North is pushing his country's scientists to develop such a weapon.
