South Korea's arms procurement agency, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, announced this week that South Korean company Hyundai Rotem completed development of a new armored command vehicle. The wheeled vehicle based on the K808 platform allows commanders to lead forces while on the move. The agency plans to sign a contract in 2022 for production of the platform whose development began in 2017.

The Defence Blog website reported that the vehicle will be used for collecting intelligence, analyzing and transmitting data, and controlling forces carrying out combat missions. As part of a family of 6×6 and 8×8 armored vehicles, the vehicle has an all-welded armored hull that provides protection against small-arms fire and artillery shell splinters. It can be fitted with another layer of armor for a higher level of protection. The vehicle is also equipped with a nuclear, biological and chemical protection system.
