Last week, the Ministry of Defense of Finland has authorized the logistic department of the Finnish armed forces to acquire ammunition for the Finnish Leopard-2A6 tanks from the Land Division of Elbit Systems of Israel. The ammunition consists of state-of-the-art 122mm HE/Fragmentation cartridges designed to handle hostile forces and buildings, which upgrade the firepower of the Finnish armored forces. The transaction is estimated at dozens of millions of US dollars.

Various defense industries competed for the procurement transaction and the ammunition was tested in Finland. The ammunition selected provided the best solution for the requirements specified, reported the Ministry of Defense of Finland. Deliveries are scheduled for 2021, and the acquisition agreement also includes the option for additional purchases in the future.

It should be noted that over the last few years, Finland acquired from Holland about 100 Leopard 2A6NL tanks, along with spare part supplies for a period of ten years. The cost of each tank was about two million Euros, and the platforms were delivered between 2015 and 2019.
